 Angkor
complex is the life and soul of Khmer (90 % of
Cambodian Population). Angkor is the Khmer art
and civilization, represents the spiritual heart
and identity of the Khmer people, and the power
of the Khmer Kingdom in the past that presided
over most of present day Southeast Asia from 800AD
to 1430AD. Angkor complex consists of more than
100 monuments which they spread over an area of
more than 400 square kilometers. Angkor the most
famous, largest ancient temples and one of the
seven wonders of the world. They were built between
7th and 13th century by Khmer kings when the Khmer
civilization was at it height of its extraordinary
creativity. It's magnificent architecture as the
evidence of the Khmer's strong belief in religions
- Hinduism and Buddhism. King Jayavarman VII is
one of the powerful Khmer kings in that period.
The most visited temples in Angkor
area are Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom – The Bayon,
Bapoun, Phimeanakas, Takeo, Ta Prohm, Banteay
Kdei, Pre Rup, East Mebon, Prasat Kravan, Preah
Khan, Neak Poan, Ta Som, Banteay Srei and the
Rolous Group.
ANGKOR
WAT
Angkor
Wat is the largest temple in the world. It's covered
an area of 200 hectares, and it was built by king
Suryavarman II in the middle of the 12th century
over a period of around 30 years. On the four
sides of the wall, there are the bas relief tells
the stories of Hindu and Buddhism religion, and
also about 1,600 different sculptures of celestial
dancers "Apsara" on the wall of this
temple.
ANGKOR
THOM

Located the north of Angkor Wat it was built at
the end of 12th century by king Jayavarman VII,
and dedicated to Buddhism. Bayon Temple is located
in Angkor Thom with great of 54 towers which its
4 faces ach. There are other temples within the
Angkor Thom such as Bapoun, Elephant Terrace,
Phimeanakas etc.
THOMMANON
AND CHAU SAY TEVODA

Built by King Suryavarman II from the end of the
11th to the first half of the 12th century and
dedicated to Brahmanism.
TAKEO

Built by King Jayavarman V and
Suryavarman I in 1000AD and
was dedicated to Brahmanism

Built by King Jayavarman VII at the end
of the 12th century and dedicated to
Buddhism.

Built by King Jayavarman VII at the second half

PROHM TEMPLE

Unlike other temples in Angkor, Ta Prohm surrounded
by jungle. It is one of the largest and most attraction
temples in Angkor, was built by King Jayavarman
VII from the mid of 12th to the beginning of 13th
century, and dedicated to Buddhism,

KDEI
Built by King Jayavarman VII from the mid-12th
to the beginning of 13th century, and was dedicated
to Buddhism.
PRASAT
KRAVAN
Built by King Harshavarman I in the mid-10th century
and was dedicated to Hinduism.
BAKHENG
TEMPLE
It
is a testimony to the love of symmetry and balance,
which evolved its style. In pure simplicity of
rectangles, its beauty is achieved. It is a pyramid
mounting in terraces, five of them. Below Bak-Keng
lies all the world of mystery, the world of the
Khmer, more mysterious than ever under its cover
of impenetrable verdure.

AND PREAH KO
Built by King Indravarman I at the end of the
9th century and dedicated to Hinduism.
LOLEI
Built by King Yasovarman at the end of the 9th
century and was dedicated to Hinduism.
WESTERN
BARAY
Built by King Udayadityavarman II in 1060.
BANTEAY
SREI
This is the small temple but its carvings are
so beautiful. Banteay Srei is located about 35
km from Siem Reap town on the way to Kulen mountain,
one of the historical places of Cambodia. It was
built by king Rajendravarman and Jayavarman V
at the second, half of the 10th century, and dedicated
to Hinduism.

SPEAN
(The stream of a Thousand Lingas)
It was established by the King Suryavarman I in
1054. this holy place must have been favored during
the great Angkorian epoch when its waters, after
having washed gods and lingas, continue on to
the wonderous royal city with its growing monumental
temples.
